Parent Coaching
Frequently Asked Questions

  • My coaching is designed for parents of school aged children, including tweens and teens, who struggle with big emotions, transitions, Executive Function skills (planning, organization, time management), or increasing independence. Coaching is especially supportive for families navigating ADHD, Executive Function Challenges and high sensitivity.

  • Parent coaching focuses on helping you better understand your and child’s needs, your goals, your child's brain, identify what’s getting in the way, and develop practical, neuro-inclusive strategies that work in everyday life. Coaching emphasizes skill‐building, collaboration, and reducing stress at home.

  • No. Parent coaching is not therapy or a clinical service. Coaching is action‐oriented and skills‐based, focusing on present challenges and practical solutions rather than diagnosis or past experiences. Although not clinical, it is also trauma informed and neurodiversity affirming to support the complex challenges many families face.

  • I work with parents of school aged children, elementary school through high school. Support is a tailored to your child’s developmental stage and individual needs.

  • Parent coaching works with you - the parents. This allows you to build confidence and skills to support your child consistently in real‐life situations. If you are seeking direct support for your young adult child who attends college, we can discuss college coaching services I also offer, or discuss if a different service than coaching would be a better fit.

  • Following each session, parents receive a brief after‑session summary outlining key insights, progress, and clear action steps. Ongoing email support between sessions is also available to help navigate real‑time questions, challenges, or adjustments as you begin implementing new strategies.

  • Parents often report:

    • Reduced stress and overwhelm

    • Improved communication and fewer power struggles

    • Better understanding of their child’s brain and needs

  • Coaching length depends on your goals and the level of support needed.

For most families, the best place to start is the 9‑session package. This timeframe provides enough space to address core challenges, build practical skills, and establish sustainable systems that create lasting change.

The best way to determine whether this is the right fit — or if a different level of support would be more appropriate — is through a complimentary 30‑minute discovery call. During that conversation, we’ll clarify your goals and map out the most supportive path forward.

  • College coaching is for students who are capable academically but struggle with organization, time management, follow‐through, emotional regulation, or independence. My coaching is especially supportive for students with ADHD, ASD, Executive Function challenges, and High Sensitivity - or any student who benefits from a brain‐based, strengths‐focused approach.

  • The difference is that college coaching focuses on the whole student — not just coursework.

Rather than teaching subject‑specific content, coaching strengthens executive function skills such as planning, organization, time management, follow‑through, emotional regulation, goal setting, and study strategies. These foundational skills impact academics, confidence, stress management, and daily life.

Unlike tutoring, which focuses on mastering course material, or academic advising, which guides course selection and degree requirements, coaching addresses the how of learning — helping students build systems, accountability, resilience, and independence.

The goal isn’t just improved grades — it’s sustainable growth and long‑term success.

  • No. While many students I work with have ADHD or Autism (ASD), coaching is appropriate for any college student experiencing Executive Function challenges, overwhelm, or difficulty adjusting to college demands. A formal diagnosis is not required.

  • Coaching commonly supports:

    • Time management and planning

    • Organization and prioritization

    • Task initiation and follow‐through

    • Emotional regulation and stress management

    • Flexible thinking and problem‐solving

    • Independence, accountability, and self‐advocacy

All strategies are personalized and designed to be practical and sustainable.

  • A neurodiversity‐affirming approach recognizes that brains work differently—and that these differences are not deficits. Coaching focuses on understanding how a student’s brain works, building skills without shame, and creating systems that support success without trying to force conformity or “fix” the student.

  • Students often experience:

    • Improved organization and time management

    • Reduced stress and burnout

    • Increased follow‐through and consistency

    • Greater confidence and independence

    • Stronger self‐awareness and self‐advocacy skills

    • More sustainable routines for academic and daily life

Progress looks different for every student and is paced to support long‐term success.

  • College coaching is centered on the student and designed to build independence, confidence, and personal accountability. Therefore, sessions and primary communication are held solely between the student and coach to create a supportive and confidential space for open conversation, self‑advocacy, and meaningful growth.

If a student is still a minor, parents may receive limited updates related to engagement and progress toward goals. These updates are shared in a way that maintains trust and confidentiality within the coaching relationship while keeping parents appropriately informed. Even in these cases, coaching remains focused on supporting the student’s development and growing autonomy.
